Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of a man called the Buddha, who lived at some point between around 500 and 300 BC. The Buddha began life as a rich ruler named Siddhartha Gautama, however he later surrendered his riches to became a monk. Buddhism started in India and spread to Central and south-eastern Asia, China, Korea and Japan. Today a few individuals in the West additionally take after Buddhism.
